Accountant / Full Charge Bookkeeper

A premier provider of high quality air condition, heating and indoor air quality services in South Florida is currently seeking an Accountant / Full charge Bookkeeper to join their growing company.

Reports to: Owner

Work start and end time: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday to Friday

Pay Scale: $50 - $70K DOE + Benefits

Position Summary: The Accountant / Full Charge Bookkeeper manages and directs the daily accounting activities ensuring that proper accounting and recording of the company's transactions are performed in an accurate and timely manner. Produces financial and other key reports for management. Will work closely with all the department leaders and their staff to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures.  

Job Description:

  • Manages the aging of Accounts Receivable and Payable
  • Verify subcontractors and vendors meet all requirements of contract agreement prior to any payments
  • Oversee month-end closing and year-end closing and coordinates and assigns duties to the accounting staff as needed
  • Maintain the accounting systems software to ensure the proper, complete and accurate record-keeping of accounting company transactions is performed within the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Evaluates departmental performance and adjusts daily operations when needed to ensure the department meets overall goals and objectives
  • Prepares and submits payroll for processing in the absence of a payroll clerk
  • Interface with managers to ensure that invoices are coded to proper general ledger account
  • Process employee year end W-2's and 1099 forms, distributing to employees and appropriate agencies as required.
  • Reviews payroll for accuracy prior to processing
  • Ensures that 401K contributions are made accurately and timely
  • Completes annual 401K audits as required
  • Conducts internal audits of processes and procedures.
  • Takes the lead in implementation of needed corrections as determined by an audit (internal or external)
  • Maintains and reconciles the fixed assets to the general ledger of the company
  • Provides training, guidance and direction to employees to ensure work is performed in an efficient, timely and knowledgeable manner.
  • Prepare multiple state agency reports for tax purposes to include reporting for multiple states the company operates in
  • Maintain all company operating, payroll, savings and investment bank accounts
  • Works closely with financial institutions concerning bank activity changes, enhancements and charges
  • Produces monthly, quarterly and annual reporting as required
  • Works on special projects as needed
  • Must stay up to date on best practices for accounting team
  • Assist with annual financial planning/budgets for the company


Required Qualifications:

  • AA degree in Accounting
  • Knowledge of computer based spreadsheets and reporting
  • Excellent communication skills
  • 3+ Years in a supervisory role.
  • A/R, A/P and payroll 
  • Financial Statements 
  • Coordinate Year-end with external auditors
  • Demonstrated core leadership skills
  • Ability to motivate and encourage others
  • Demonstrated strength in understanding of human relationships and connections
  • Ability to confront issues head on using tact and diplomacy
  • Strong active listening skills
  • Ability to create/direct sound business strategy and adhere to the plan
  • Ability to follow directions with written processes/procedures
  • Strong understanding of financial and managerial accounting principles
  • Proficient in reading, interpreting, analyzing financial statements and recommending changes needed to improve performance
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals
  • 5+ years of financial closing experience (month end and year end)
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Possess moderate keyboarding skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to create and present training materials to groups
  • Ability to multi-task effectively
  • Timely in all work and exceptional time management skills
  • Ability to apply sound judgement
  • Ability to live and demonstrate the company's mission, vision and value statements.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental payroll and associated taxes and benefits and how they apply to the actual cost of labor
  • Strong attention to detail


Qualifications desired:

  • Degree in Accounting or AA in Accounting 
  • 10+ Years financial closing experience (month end and year end)
  • 10+ Years progressive accounting experience
